EA SPORTS FC 27 Class of '27 ICONs

ICONs in EA SPORTS FC 27 are retired greats, not live-licensed superstars and not Hall of FUT fan favourites. EA has officially named a Class of ‘27 of ten new ICONs, plus a cluster of returning legends used in the International ICON pre-order pool. Two former Heroes — Lúcio and Yaya Touré — move into the ICON tier this year.

This page is a pre-launch reference. Football Ultimate Team is not a live competitive ladder yet, so treat Champion overalls as published item floors, not Weekend League proof. Pair this list with player ratings when you need attributes and PlayStyles, and with the Tier List Hub when you want role projections.

Class of ‘27 official table

The ratings EA has shown for these ten names are split on purpose. Debut versions start at 85 or 86. Champion versions are the 89–91 cards used in marketing. Christine Sinclair is the highest Champion in the new class at 91 ST.

Sinclair, Formiga, Hege Riise, Yūki Nagasato, Tobin Heath, and Ellen White are first-time FC 27 ICONs. Agüero, Varane, Rummenigge, and Pepe complete the official ten. The mix is deliberate: four centre-forward profiles, two centre-backs, a holding midfielder, a box-to-box, a wide creator, and a CAM. That spread matters more than raw overall once PlayStyles are rebalanced, because a 90 CB with the right role can outlive a 90 ST who only works in one shape.

All new ICONs coming to FC 27

Returning legends and Hero-to-ICON

EA has also announced returning ICONs that sit in the same International ICON conversation as the new class: Zinedine Zidane, Ruud Gullit, Fernando Torres, Gianluca Zambrotta, Andrea Pirlo, and Bastian Schweinsteiger. Community write-ups of the pre-order pool put Gullit and Zidane at 86 Debut / 91 Champion, matching Sinclair at the top of that special track.

Two promotions change squad-building language from last year:

• Lúcio was a Hero. In FC 27 he is an ICON, which means ICON chemistry rather than a single-league Hero boost.
• Yaya Touré follows the same Hero-to-ICON path.

If you are planning links around Brazil or Côte d’Ivoire, that category change is the important part, not the nostalgia. A Hero chemistry rule from FC 26 will not describe these two items in FC 27.

International ICON pre-order path

Ultimate Edition and Ultimate Plus Edition pre-orders placed in the early-bird window (through 31 August 2026) include an untradeable 85+ OVR International ICON player item. You do not pick the player. EA draws from a pool that community trackers describe as the ten Class of ‘27 names plus the eight returning / promoted legends above — eighteen items, not a Player Pick.

The item is associated with early access from 18 September 2026. Community reporting, based on EA’s International ICON messaging, is that these Debut items upgrade toward their Champion versions by 30 November 2026. Phrase that as a published upgrade track, not as a guaranteed 91 on every name: Sinclair, Gullit, and Zidane are the 91 Champion ceiling in that set; Ellen White’s Champion is 89. Keep the item in the club if you want the upgrade. Check editions for what each SKU actually included, and codes if you are hunting separate promo rewards rather than pre-order content.

Missing the 31 August window does not lock you out of ICONs forever. It only removes the guaranteed 85+ untradeable. Hall of FUT is not an ICON

Hall of FUT is a separate collection celebrating cards that became famous inside Ultimate Team, not players inducted for real-world careers. Base Hall of FUT items come from the FUT Gallery token store, not from the ICON pack weight. Ultimate Plus also included a 1-of-5 Hall of FUT Player Pick (Akinfenwa, dos Santos, Rémy, Fellaini, Elia) — still not ICON chemistry.

Do not SBC-swap a Hall of FUT item expecting ICON links. If a content creator labels every special legend an ICON, check the item category on the card. ICONs, Heroes, and Hall of FUT are three different chemistry stories this year.

How these items play before a live meta exists

PlayStyles were rebalanced in the gameplay deep dive so raw shooting, defending, and acceleration matter more than a single badge. That cuts both ways for ICONs. A Champion Agüero with elite finishing tools is still a centre-forward you build around; a 90 Varane or Lúcio is more interesting than a generic 90 if centre-back roles and jockeying are less PlayStyle-scripted. Sinclair as a 91 ST is the new-class ceiling, but she is not automatically the only viable nine if your shape wants a different role.

Until Weekend League and Rivals are actually running after early access, any “must-buy ICON” list is a projection. Use roles and the formations page to decide whether you even need a 91 striker, then come back here for the official names.

Practical checklist

1. Learn the ten Class of ‘27 names and their Debut versus Champion overalls.
2. Remember Lúcio and Yaya Touré are ICONs, not Heroes.
3. If you pre-ordered Ultimate or Ultimate Plus in time, expect one random 85+ International ICON, not a pick.
4. Do not confuse Hall of FUT with ICONs.
5. Revisit player ratings once attribute and PlayStyle+ details are on the card in your club.
